Business Description:Synovel is into Enterprise messaging & collaboration domain. We are building an integrated collaboration solution for enterprises based on Open Source software. The solution provides integrated access to various tools of collaboration - email, calendaring, instant messaging, document management and knowledge management. The solution can be delivered as a deployable solution at the client premises and also as a hosted service (SaaS model).
Need for a new Collaboration Solution:
- Mainstream collaboration solutions are all proprietary and force a vendor lock-in on the users. This results in forced upgrades and higher Total Cost of Ownership.
- The available solutions are hardly customizable to the discrete needs of enterprises. Existing solutions have a few, if not only single, sources of such customizations making customizations even harder and expensive.
- With a significant rate of migrations to GNU/ Linux and other Free Software platforms there is a need for a platform independent enterprise collaboration solution.
- Organizations that use web-based hosted collaboration solutions are under a constant fear of data security. Web-based solutions are slow and cannot be be used off-line (for example, during travel). They do not address the needs of power users and try to play catch-up with desktop interfaces.
The enterprise collaboration market is projected to be at 4.1 Bil USD by 2010 (Source: Radicati group). IBM and Microsoft together have about half of the install base. In the short term, Synovel plans to target this segment of the market.
Geographically - India, Europe and North America will be the focus areas.
